i am in college as well, and what I do is I eat no more than 1300 calories a day, and I walk at a brisk pace for an hour 3-4 times a week. I do this early in the morn before classes because its much cooler. It has worked for me for 4 months and I have lost a total of 25 pounds. Stay away from fried foods and sweets, sodas, and most breads, and starches. It will be hard to give up the good stuff, but its worth it when you realize you can wear whatever you want. Good luck.
