How many fat grams/trans fat grams a day to lose weight?

doodle03 asked:

My best friend is on a diet where she only eats 30 or less fat grams a day. She, like me, finds that easier than counting calories. She has lost 10 pounds, but wants to lose 10 more before her March wedding. I’ve always heard that lowering trans fat is the way to lose weight. Any thoughts?

First of all, you should never eat trans fats, if at all possible. Your friend’s method of losing weight is not a good idea. Soon, her body will go into starvation mode, clinging to every calorie because it isn’t getting enough food. I bet you anything she doesn’t lose that second 10 lbs.

Trans fat is in cooking oil and while it may not cause you to gain weight, it will cause a build up of cholesterol in your blood which is more dangerous than gaining weight. If you watch your diet, eat foods that are low in fat and stay below 2000 calories a day, you should lose weight. Oh and the big secret to losing weight is to burn off more than you take in. So get on an exercise program too. Give it time but it will work.
