my friend is on a crazy diet?

A-Dizzle asked:

So my best friend is chubby and she is trying to lose weight
for the last two weeks she has only been drinking water and she has one cup of that diet tea that cleans you out (i don’t know the name)
but is this healthy for her to do? She has lost weight from it really fast but I am worried about the long term problems it might cause. Would anyone have a saver diet for her to follow?

No it is NOT healthy. Doing that means her metabolism is not active so when she does eat she will be GAINING weight. She should try to cut out all pop, fast food, junk food, etc. out of her diet and eat HEALTHY snacks every 2-3 hours to keep her metabolism active and burning fat, in addition to daily cardio workouts.

    Lose weight, Lose Fat

You could tell her that you will lose more body fat eating protein and fat (don’t eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast eat all you want but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter and half an avocado a day (you’ll need added potassium). Keep the calories high and the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Adding in green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.

Starving will turn your body into a fat storage machine, you will lose mostly water weight and the lean tissue your body will strip to access nutrition. Your body won’t release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow your metabolism to compensate and store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering your calories, it will continue lowering that set point, til you can survive off nothing and store fat on anything. The body will only release it’s fat stores if it knows there is plenty of food available (not just calorically high food, but nutritionally high food)..

I would suggest you dramatically increase, well above your needs, food intake with low carb foods. It will take your body awhile to access the fat stores depending how long you’ve been in starvation mode, but you shouldn’t gain weight, other than water weight and the lean tissue your body has had to strip to access nutrition. If you are young enough and do this, you may be able to repair the damage to your metabolism before it becomes permanent.

Metabolism is controlled by nutrition. You can’t eat 600/1500/2000 calories of vegetables & fruit (pick a number, it doesn’t matter – only the amount of fat stored changes), your body will treat it as being starved (which it is, starved of nutrition) and will shut down your metabolism as if you’re eating nothing, but will store every possible ounce as fat. Inversely, you wont gain weight on 5000 or more calories of fat & protein (if fat is 65% of calories) because insulin (the fat storage hormone) is not activated.

High fat, adequate protein and very low carbs will after 3 days convert your body to burning fat as fuel (ketosis). While in ketosis you will burn dietary fat and if dietary fat is more than sufficient, body fat directly. High calories will keep the metabolism at maximum fat burning capabilities.

Your body requires fats, you will die without them. Your body requires protein, you will die without them. You will die if you eat protein without fat. You do not require carbohydrates. The body can manufacture all it needs from the protein/fat combination.

If you starve yourself by lowering calories lower than are needed for the body to function, your body will freak out and will want to store every ounce in case it doesn’t get nourished again. You need to give it adequate nourishment so it doesn’t slow your metabolism down to adjust for lower calories.

Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) triggers insulin which can store the calories you eat into fat. The more protein you eat the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate you eat the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.

High insulin levels unbalance other hormones. Controlling your insulin level will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so you will gain lean muscle even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase your muscle mass with high HGH levels.

Once you get near your goal, you start adding 5 carbs every 3 days til you gain weight, then you subtract 10 carbs. That would give you your personal carb level (everyone is different and it depends on how active you are.) As long as you remain

    Need to lose weight?

First Yes that is very unhealthy way to loose not good AT ALL…

I know this is long reply. But please take your time and read this. I know this work. So please read it =)

Water is very good for you and specially if you’re on diet and if you’re working out-water is very good and keeps you hydrated.

I don’t believe in pills or any weight loss shakes-they are bogus and lame and are temporally and have many side effects.

First loose the soda, cut down on pizza and fast food.
If you like fires make ‘em at home in oven. They come out very yummy and oil free.

Key is to eat small portions 5 times a day.

Morning: boiled eggs, corn flakes, fat free milk, if you want to fry eggs loose the yolk and eat the white part.
Morning snack around 10:30am-11am: a piece of fruit / 2 cups of veggie/ salad
Lunch: Turkey / Chicken lunchmeat with whole grain or wheat bread.
    1 Cup of veggies.
Mid day snack (around 2:30pm or so) a piece of fruit or health bar.
Dinner: Grill fish with veggies / brown rice with beans/ wheat pasta with grill chicken.
9pm snack (optional-only if you feel lil hungry 2 hours before your sleep time) have yogurt.

The key is to loose red meat and pork and add more wheat products to your diet. Drink lots of water. As you can read i did not talk about any sweet products. Sweet only from fruits no cookies no cake no brownies.None of that. Sweet things have more and load and calories. Take your protein because you would need that protein for your work out.

Drink more water, eat more veggies and more fruits, add wheat products to your diet, like wheat pasta and wheat bread. Corn flakes cereal.

    Good luck

    Lose weight fast

it sounds like what she’s doing is a water fast. fasting is used for detoxing and as a jump start for a healthy diet. i believe that the longest someone should stay on a water fast is 2-3 weeks tops. i would say to congratulate her on her current weight loss, but encourage her to start adding in some solid foods. when you come off a fast though, you still can’t eat solid, regular foods right away. she needs to slowly add juice for the first 1 or two days off, then introduce small amounts of fruits and water-based vegetables for the next 1-3 days. after that, she should start a healthy eating plan of 1,200 -1,500 calories and start an exercise regimen. if she does this she should continue to lose weight. good luck!

Only water? Do you mean the Master Cleanse? If so I have done that. Maybe she can try the eat clean phase, or a little vegan diet. I don’t like the word diet that much, because it really is about eating the rights food for you or your friend. Which can be the hard part, figuring out what works for a person. The eating clean thing is basically, just slowing getting off anything process, if you can’t say the name on the label then don’t buy. It also about eating fresh foods and fruits. Sometimes a little sweet or fat can be good, but in her case she slowly needs to smart and clean. Find out with works for her, and then try doing some toning/fat burning exercise at the same time. I don’t know how over weight is your friend, but I heard the Julian 30-day shred is a ok dvd to start with. Even though she is heavy, starving can be a bad thing, if that’s what’s happening. I’m also trying to get back into shape. I know it sounds hard, but your friend can take baby steps to not only eating well, but being fit even at her size. If you can’t get her out of the water thing yet, tell her to try juicing, plus eating fruits and veggies in her diet.

    Copy from that site.

Avoid food products containing ingredients that are a) unfamiliar, b) unpronounceable c) more than five in number — or that contain high-fructose corn syrup. No more than 1/3rd of your intake should involve such “food” (this one is TOUGH in our society).

Choose 2 of the below as your own personal commitment, and let us know which you will be doing. All would be best, but we aren’t superwomen :

    4. Do most of your shopping at farmer’s markets and food co-ops. Whole foods is second-best.

    5. Practice ”Hara Hachi Bu”: eat until you are 80 percent full.

    6. Eat mostly plants, especially leaves. Reduce meat intake to one serving a day or less.

    7. Choose a traditional diet to follow – Greek, French, African, West-Indian – anything but American! Research has shown every other eating custom is better than ours!

    8. Cook more than half of your meals (obvious health benefits)

    9. Add new species, not just new foods, to your diet. The greater the diversity of species you eat, the more likely you are to cover all your nutritional bases. If you are choosing this one, aim for at least 2 new foods a week to try, and report back!

    10. Eat more organic and/or cruelty-free/free-range food. If choosing this option, double your normal intake of these types of food

Here are two websites that will help you find farmer’s markets and food co-ops:

Here are links to the two books I read (highly recommended):

A few healthy, but yummy recipes sites, etc.
